Ingredients for Kollu Rasam
- Horse Gram / Kollu - 1 Cup
- Tomato - 3
- Ginger - 1/4 Inch
- Garlic Cloves - 4
- Cumin Seeds - 2 tsp
- Whole Black Pepper - 1 tsp
- Mustard Seeds - 1 tsp
- Curry Leaves
- Tamarind - small
- Red Chilli Powder - 2 tsp
- Turmeric Powder - 1/4 tsp
- Coriander Powder - 1/2 tsp
- Coriander Leaves
- Ghee - 1 tblsp
Preparation of Kollu Rasam Recipe
First wash and soak the horse gram / Kollu over night.
Pressure cook the the soaked kollu with 3 cup water for 4 to 5 whistles.
Strain and extract the boiled water and keep aside.
Add the tomatoes, cumin seeds, whole black pepper, tamarind and garlic cloves to a blender.
Then grind them to make a smooth paste.
Take a pan and heat ghee or oil.
Add mustard seeds and curry leaves. Let them fry.
Now add tomato paste and stir them.
Then red chillie powder, turmeric powder and salt. Mix them.
Now add drained liquid (Boiled Kollu water). Mix them well.
Add chopped coriander leaves.
Let them boil well for 5 to 7 minutes.

Tips - Horse Gram Rasam
We can add few curry leaves while grinding tomatoes for more taste and flavor.
We can make tasty sundal using the remaining boiled kollu.
