Ingredients for Gooseberry Pickle
- Indian gooseberry (Amla/ Nellikai) - 1/2 KG
- Salt - 8 to 10 tsp
- Chillie Powder - 8 tsp
- Turmeric powder - a pinch
- Asafoetida - 3/4 tsp
- Mustard - 1 tsp
- Fenugreek powder - 1 tsp
- Oil - 1/2 cup ( measuring cup)
Preparation of Gooseberry Pickle Recipe
Take a heavy bottomed pan and roast the fenugreek seeds and grind them and keep aside.
Wash the gooseberries and dry them using clean cloth.
Steam cook the cleaned gooseberries for 8 to 10 minutes (Cook till the gooseberries get soft).
After the gooseberries gets cool separate the seeds.
Allow them to cool for 2 to 3 hours.
Now, take a heavy bottomed pan and heat the oil.
Add the mustard seeds.
When the mustard seeds get spluttered add asafoetida powder, turmeric powder and cooked gooseberries.
Cook them for 7 to 8 minutes.
Then, add Chillie Powder and salt as needed.
Cook them all together till the oil gets separates.
Now, add the powdered fenugreek and mix them well.Turn off the flame.
Let them cool and store it in clean and dry jar or bottle.
Our tasty and spicy "Gooseberry pickle" is ready.
Tips - Gooseberry Pickle Recipe
Steam the gooseberries with turmeric powder and salt so that we can preserve the pickle for more days.
The pickle will be very tasty if we taste after 2 to 3 days.
