Ingredients for Cabbage Chutney
- Cabbage - 1 Cup (Chopped)
- Onions - 1/2 Cup (Chopped)
- Tomatoes - 1/2 Cup (Chopped)
- Ginger - 1/2 inch
- Dry Red Chili - 1
- Green Chilli - 1
- Tamarind - A small ball
- Curry Leaves
- Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
- Urad dal - 2tsp
- Hing/Asafoetida - A Pinch
- Oil - 2 tblsp
- Grated Coconut - 1 tsp (Optional)
Preparation of Cabbage Chutney Recipe
Take a pan and heat 1 tsp of oil.
Add the 1/2 tsp mustard seeds, urad dal and dry red chilli. Saute the until the mustard seeds gets spluttered and remove from pan.
Then add chopped onion, green chillies, ginger and curry leaves. Cook them until the onion turns transparent.
Now add the chopped cabbage and stir them for few minutes.
Add the chopped tomatoes and stir them. Cook them for another 8 to 10 minutes until the raw smell goes off.
Allow it to cool for room temperature.
Grind the urad dal mixture to smooth paste.
Now add the cabbage mixture with tamarind and salt. Grind them again to make a fine smooth chutney. (Add water as you need)
Take another pan and heat 1/2 tsp of oil. Add 1/2 tsp of mustard seed and curry leaves.
Finally pour it over the cabbage chutney.

Tips - Cabbage Chutney
Add 1 tsp of grated coconut for more taste.
