Unniyappam

"Unniyappam", is one of the traditional Kerala special sweet recipes. Its a perfect combination of rice flour, jaggery and banana which will be a delicious sweet for celebrations like onam, diwali, etc.,.

Ingredients for Unniyappam

  • Rice Flour - 2 Cup
  • Jaggery - 1 Cup
  • Banana - 2
  • Dry Ginger Powder - 1 tsp
  • Baking Soda - 1/2 tsp
  • Cardamom Powder - 2 tsp
  • Water - 1 Cup
  • Oil
  • Salt

Preparation of Unniyappam Sweet Recipe

First peel the bananas and grind them to make a smooth paste.

Take a heavy bottomed vessel. Add water and jaggery. Heat them until the jaggery melts.

Strain the jaggery water.

Take a bowl. Add banana paste and strained jaggey water. Mix them well.

Now add the cardamom powder, dry ginger powder and mix them well.

Add the rice flour and mix them to make a thick batter (Thicker than dosa batter).

Then add the baking soda and mix them. Allow it ferment for 3 to 4 hours.

Take a paniyar pan and heat oil or ghee.

Fill in the holes with the batter and cook them covered in low flame.

When one side turns brown turn to other side and cook the uncovered.

Make sure both sides cooks well and turns golden brown.

Transfer the soft and sweet Panniyaram to a serving plate.

Delicious and tasty, "unniyappam" is ready for onam.

Tips - Unniyappam Sweet Panniyaram

While preparing the batter make sure your getting the proper consistency. If the batter is too thick add water and if it is too thin add rice flour.

Soak the rice for 5 to 8 hours and grind them to make a soft unniyappam.
