Ingredients for Sweet / Sakkarai Pongal
- Rice - 1/2 Cup
- Moong Dal - 1/2 Cup
- Grated Jaggery - 1/2 Cup
- Ghee - 4 to 5 tblsp
- Cardamom Powder - 1/4 tsp
- Cashew Nuts - 2 tblsp
- Dry Grapes - 2 tblsp
Preparation of Sweet Pongal Recipe
First Soak the rice and moong dal separately for 1 hour.
Wash the soaked rice and dal. Drain them and keep aside.
Heat a tblsp of ghee and roast the cashews and dry grapes. Keep them aside.
Heat 1 cup of water in a heavy bottomed pot or pan and add the grated jaggery. Heat it until the jaggery dissolves completely.
Now strain the and discard the impurities.
Heat another heavy bottomed pot or pan. Add 2 tblsp of ghee.
Add moong dal and saute them for 3 to 5 minutes.
Now add the washed rice and saute them for another 2 minutes.
Add 3 cups of water and salt to taste. Let the rice and dal cooks well. Then mash them well.
Then add the jaggery syrup and mix them well. Cook them for 5 to 7 minutes.
Add Ghee and keep on stirring until you get the pongal consistency.
Now add the cashew nuts and dry grapes. Mix them.
Finally, transfer the sweet pongal to a serving plate.
A celebration special delicious, Sweet Pongal is ready.
Tips - Sweet / Sakkarai Pongal
We can cook them in pressure cooker for a quick pongal recipe.
Switch off the stove immediately when you get the proper consistency if not the pongal will get dry.
We can add the jaggery directly without making it to syrup.
