Ingredients for Potato Payasam
- Potato - 1
- Milk - 1/2 Liter
- Moong Dhal - 1/2 Cup
- Jaggery - 1 Cup
- Almonds - 2 to 3 tblsp
- Dry Grapes - 2 tblsp
- Cashews - 2 tblsp
- Cardamom Powder - 1/4 tsp
Preparation of Potato Payasam Recipe
Take a pan. Add 1/2 cup water and 1 cup jaggery, bring them to boil. When it boil turn of the flame and strain it.
Heat a tblsp of ghee. Add almond and roast them for 1 or 2 minutes. Transfer to a plate.
Then add cashews and roast them for few seconds. Transfer it to the same plate.
Now add the dry grapes and just roast them for 5 to 10 seconds.Transfer to the plate.
Take another pan fry the moong dal till it turns light brown.
In a pressure cooker add the fried moong dal. Wash the potato and cut them and add it to the pressure cooker.
Pressure cook them for 3 to 4 whistles.
Once it cooks well let them cool down. Peel the potato and smash them well.
We can just grind the cooked potato to make fine puree.
Take a heavy bottomed pan and boil the milk. Once the milk starts boiling, bring the flame to low.
Now smash the cooked dal and add it to the boiling milk. Stir them well.
Then add the potato puree and stir them well. cook them for a minute in low flame.
Add the jaggery syrup and stir them for few more minutes in low flame.
Once we got the payasam consistency add the cardamom powder, roasted almonds, cashews and dry grapes, stir them and turn off the flame.
Transfer to serving bowl.
Our Delicious and tasty, Potato Payasam is ready.
Tips - Potato Kheer
We can use sweet potatoes instead of potato for a different taste.
We can add sugar and condensed milk instead of jaggery for more taste.
